Building Maintenance 

Description:

Under the general supervision from the Building Maintenance Manager, the Building Maintenance Generalist will perform journey-level work in the painting repair and maintenance of related facilities.

Scope:

The Building Maintenance Generalist will perform a wide variety of general and preventive maintenance and paint repair work.  Incumbent will independently perform a broad spectrum of painting and may serve as back-up to other craft workers on complex assignments.

Responsibilities:

Examples of key duties are interpreted as being descriptive and not restrictive in nature. The following duties are listed both as trade-specific and shared responsibilities.

  • Key responsibility is to keep all campus updated with a fresh coat of paint at all times.

 

Shared Responsibilities:

  • Maintains appropriate paint color records for all campuses.

  • Responds to routine and emergency calls for paint repairs and service.

  • Assists and serves as back up to other Maintenance department employees.

 

Requirements:

  • Two years of journey-level experience working in at least one relevant trade in a commercial, industrial, or facilities operations setting.

  • Ability to operate and use a spectrum of tools and equipment skillfully.

  • Safely perform heavy physical labor.

  • Able to read and comprehend plans and blueprints.

  • Maintain cooperative working relationships.

  • Have a broad knowledge of standard practices and procedures of painting and mechanical systems, including materials and tools, machinery, and equipment.

 

Special Requirements:

Must be able to perform physical activities, such as but not limited to, lifting equipment (up to 50 lbs. unassisted), bending, standing, climbing or walking. Must be able to safely use manual tools and power equipment common in the construction trades. Must be able to handle hazardous materials safely and tolerate exposure to electrical hazards.
