When the Worst Actually Happens

The Future Is Not a Mystery: What God's Word Reveals About Tomorrow

Pastor Omar Giritli

There is something deeply woven into the human condition that craves certainty about what lies ahead. Every decision we make is oriented toward the future. We plan, we worry, we wonder, and we hope. It is no accident that across every culture and every generation, people have been drawn to fortune tellers, psychics, and anyone who claims to pull back the curtain on what tomorrow holds. The appetite for knowing the future is not a modern phenomenon. It is ancient, universal, and deeply human.

But here is the question worth sitting with: what if the future was never meant to be discovered through human ingenuity or mystical performance? What if the future was always meant to be revealed by the only One who actually holds it?

That is precisely what the second chapter of Daniel puts on full display.

When Human Wisdom Had No Answer

King Nebuchadnezzar had a dream that deeply troubled him. He called for the magicians, sorcerers, and wise men of Babylon and demanded that they tell him both the dream and its meaning. He wanted proof that their answer was genuine.

They couldn't do it.

In Daniel 2:10-11, they admitted that no human could fulfill the king's demand. Only God could reveal something like that. In the middle of their failure, they unknowingly stated an important truth: God alone can reveal what humans cannot know.

Daniel later praised God because He controls "times and seasons." He removes kings and establishes kings (Daniel 2:20-22). History is not outside His control. God is the One who rules over it.

God Does Not Reveal Everything

Deuteronomy 29:29 says that the secret things belong to the Lord. God has not chosen to tell us everything about the future, and that is intentional.

When the king ordered the wise men of Babylon to be killed, Daniel did not panic. Instead, he asked his friends to pray and seek God's mercy. That night, God revealed the mystery to Daniel in a vision.

Human wisdom had failed, but God answered prayer.

A Dream About the Future

Daniel then explained Nebuchadnezzar's dream of a massive statue with a head of gold, silver, bronze, iron, and iron mixed with clay. A stone, cut without human hands, struck the statue and eventually became a mountain that filled the earth.

Daniel identified these kingdoms as Babylon, Medo-Persia, Greece, and Rome, followed by a divided kingdom. Then came the stone—a kingdom established by God that would never be destroyed.

Isaiah 46:9-10 says that God declares the end from the beginning and accomplishes His purposes. Biblical prophecy points to the fact that history is not random or outside His control.

The Stone That Becomes a Mountain

Daniel 2:44-45 points beyond earthly kingdoms to a Kingdom that will never end. Every human empire eventually falls, but God's Kingdom remains.

The future, then, is not hidden in the stars or controlled by fortune tellers. Scripture tells us that God holds history in His hands and reveals what He chooses, when He chooses.

And at the center of that future stands Jesus Christ.

The question is not simply whether you believe the future is secure. The deeper question is this: Is the One who holds your future also at the center of your life?
