Sundays Hit Different

Pastor Gabriel Orellana

April 27, 2025

Let’s talk about something that’s slowly becoming optional in the minds of our generation… coming to church on Sundays. Now, before you check out and hit me with, “I can follow Jesus from anywhere,” just hang with me. Because yes, you can stream a sermon, vibe to worship on Spotify, and catch a devotional on IG, but none of those things replace the beauty, power, and necessity of gathering with the saints on a Sunday.

In our ministry, we say it loud and often: Tuesdays do not replace Sundays.” And here’s why.

1. Sundays Are God’s Design, Not Our Idea

Before Sunday was a calendar day, it was a beautiful and sacred rhythm. From the time of the early church until now, Sunday has been the day believers gather to worship God, hear His Word, pray together, and be reminded that Jesus is alive and coming back to get us.

“On the first day of the week, when we were gathered together to break bread…” – Acts 20:7

The early church wasn’t in isolation, they were together. Why? Because Sunday wasn’t a suggestion. It was the rhythm of revival, a command.

We must know that the Sunday weekly gathering isn’t about tradition, it's about transformation. We don't show up because we’re perfect—we show up because we’re being perfected.

Something powerful happens when we physically gather. There’s grace in the gathering.

2. You’re a Part of Something Bigger

Culture tells us to "do you." Jesus tells us, “It’s not about you… you’re part of a body.”

“Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.” – 1 Corinthians 12:27 NIV

That means your presence on Sunday matters. The body isn't whole without you. You’re not here to fill a seat or be a number, you bring something unique. And when you're missing, the rest of us feel it even if we don't realize it.

Let’s be real: it’s easy to treat church like a Netflix show: watch when convenient, skip when busy. But church isn't content to consume—it's a family to belong to. You belong here!

And if we’re a family, then Sundays are the family reunion. Tuesdays (or whatever midweek gathering you hit) are epic, no doubt. But Tuesday is like hanging with the siblings. Sunday is when the whole family pulls up.

3. Your Soul Needs More than Solo Worship

Worshiping alone is beautiful. Yes, we are called to be in the secret place; just us and Jesus. But worshiping with others? That’s powerful and it's also a command.

“Not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another…” – Hebrews 10:25

The writer of Hebrews said this because people were already starting to dip, so this issue is not new. But God knew that isolation weakens the soul. And encouragement? It flows best in person.

You might be saying, “I can watch the sermon online.” True, but the presence of God isn’t just in a sermon, it’s in the people of God. The hugs, the prayers, the worship, the Word. All of it works together to realign your soul to truth.

4. Sunday Prepares You for Monday

We all know life hits hard, and for some reason, Mondays hit harder. That’s why we need Sundays to recalibrate, realign, and refocus us for the week.

“Faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.” – Romans 10:17

We don’t come to church to check a box. We come because our faith is fueled there. Sunday is where we remember who God is, who we are, and what we’re called to. It’s the weekly recalibration we all desperately need. Let Sunday ground you so Monday doesn’t shake you!

Tuesdays are dope, no doubt - it's the best night of the week, but it’s a supplement. Sunday is the main meal. The whole squad. The fullness of what God is doing in our house.

Sundays are like the gas you put in the tank for the big race on Monday. Without the gas, you won't make it to the end of the race (week). Don’t just watch from a distance—come be a part of the move.

See you Sunday. The saints are gathering.
