DAVID II
So far, our story has painted David as a poet, warrior, musician and shepherd, but how does he become king? How does he get so close to God that he’s eventually named one of history’s great theologians? David was many things, but underneath it all, he was a sinner just like us. In this series, we’ll continue the rest of the story and uncover how God worked through all of David’s greatest victories and most tragic defeats.

Part 1: God's Timing Is Worth It
Sep 28, 2025
2 Samuel 5:3-4
After almost a decade of hiding in fear, relentless attacks, and narrow escapes of assassination, David learns that King Saul is dead. The very man who sought to destroy him is gone, but rather than be filled with joy, David is filled with grief. Rather than rush to assume the crown, David waits on the Lord and trusts in His sovereign plan. What does this teach us about our own lives today? Join us as we dive back into the epic story of David.

Part 2: The Holiness of God
Oct 5, 2025
2 Samuel 6:5-7
Throughout the Bible, we see that God desires for people to experience His presence, but how can sinful humans enter into the presence of a holy God? A sobering story that illustrates this very problem is found in 2 Samuel: As the procession carrying the Ark of the Covenant makes its way to Jerusalem, God's anger is kindled towards a man named Uzzah. Why does God’s punishment seem so harsh, and what does it say about His nature? Join us as we delve into this story and discover why only Jesus can bridge the gap between us and the Father.

Part 3: How to Have an Honoring Marriage
Oct 12, 2025
2 Samuel 6:20-22
What would you say is the most important quality of a good marriage? Is it love, trust, or sacrifice? While all those aspects are important, there’s one crucial element spouses often forget: honor. The story of David and Michal serves as a poignant illustration of how a marriage can transition from passionate love to bitter resentment when honor is lost. Join us as we learn from their story and discover how our own marriages can deteriorate from this same threat.

Part 4: The Davidic Covenant
Oct 19, 2025
2 Samuel 7:11-14
God's plan for our salvation wasn’t just revealed at Jesus’ birth. Rather, it was progressively revealed throughout history. From the beginning of time, each covenant God made with His people added another piece to the puzzle, giving us a clearer picture of how He would ultimately save us from our sins. Join us as we learn about one such puzzle piece God gave His people—the Davidic Covenant.

Part 5: True, Spiritual Israel
Oct 26, 2025
2 Samuel 7:23-24
The question of Israel has become increasingly complex in our modern world. With ongoing conflicts, political debates, and cultural tensions, many Christians find themselves confused about how to view the nation of Israel and its people. What people often forget, however, is that Scripture provides remarkable clarity on this subject. Join us as we discover how God wants us to view Israel and their unique place in God's redemptive story.

Part 6: David’s Kindness to Mephibosheth
Nov 2, 2025
2 Samuel 9:6-7
When was the last time you did a random act of kindness? Maybe it was holding a door open for someone, helping a stranger cross the street or paying for the car behind you in a drive-thru line. True kindness is when we don’t expect anything in return for our good deeds to others. After David becomes king, he shows this very kindness to a man in need, but it paints a picture of an even greater kindness God has shown us. Come learn how He completed this act of kindness and what it means for our eternity.

Part 7: David and Bathsheba
Nov 9, 2025
2 Samuel 11:1-5
The story of King David and Bathsheba provides one of the Bible’s most honest examinations of how quickly things can spiral out of control. Here was a man after God's own heart, the giant-slayer, the psalmist, the humble shepherd who becomes king against all odds—now an adulterer and even a murderer. In what should be a season of triumph and prosperity, David experiences his greatest moral failure. Join us as we learn an important lesson from David’s life: sin will cost you everything.

Part 8: David's Prayer
Nov 16, 2025
2 Samuel 15:30-31
When you’re going through a hard time, who’s the first person you call? Maybe it’s a parent, sibling or best friend. It may sound cliché, but God wants to be the first person you seek. How exactly should we pray and what should we expect from these conversations with God? Join us as we discover how one prayer from thousands of years ago is still a crucial model for us today.
